March 31, 2020
ORLANDO – Magic Gaming tipped off the NBA 2K League’s Three for All Showdown with dominant performances in the PS4 bracket.
In the opening round, Rookie Daniel “djbama” Burge delivered a pair of sensational outings, erupting for 30 points over two contests in Magic Gaming’s sweep of the MooreLifeandtheClaws, a team consisting of NBA G League players Yante Maten, Bryce Brown and JJ Moore.
Brandon “ToXsiK” Raudenbush added 12 points in the series, including a pair of lob finishes from djbama, while Robert “May” May pulled in four rebounds and anchored the defensive interior.
“DJ plays (the NBA 2K20 MyPark game mode) a lot – he grinds his player and he’s a high rep – so we felt they wouldn’t be able to stop him,” ToXsiK explained. “As long as we got some stops, we knew we would score.”
Djbama didn’t miss a shot in either contest, going 7-for-7 from the field and 5-for-5 from 3-point range in Orlando’s 21-12 Game 1 win and then followed that performance by going 4-for-4 from the floor in Magic Gaming’s 21-7 Game 2 triumph.
With a Round 1 victory, Magic Gaming advanced to the second round of the first-ever Three for All Showdown, an online 3-on-3 tournament featuring fan-organized teams, top female 2K players and social media influencers, all competing in the NBA 2K20 MyPark game mode for the chance to play against NBA 2K League teams and a share of a $25,000 prize pool.
Less than 30 minutes after demolishing MooreLifeandtheClaws, Magic Gaming made light work of Grizz Gaming in a Round 2 series sweep.
ToXsiK’s relentless defensive effort along with a game-high nine points lifted Magic Gaming to a 21-10 Game 1 victory. Known for his ability as a defensive leader as well as a versatile small forward, ToXsiK’s ability to organize his teammates defensively was extremely evident as he was mic’d up during Orlando’s stream.
“He’s definitely growing even more as a vocal leader for us, that’s awesome to see,” Magic Gaming Head Coach Jonah Edwards explained. “He’ll hopefully continue to build on that.”
Orlando rolled to another stellar triumph in Game 2 behind a 16-point effort from djbama in a 21-13 win over a Memphis squad that featured Dayvon “Goofy757” Curry, Joel “JoelLazu” Lazu and Justin “JROD” Rodriguez. Magic Gaming’s rookie left no doubt that he belongs on this stage.
“I thought they looked great,” Edwards added. “I was thrilled with DJ, and Tox and Robbie played pick-and-roll defense like they do every day in practice. It was nice to see.”
Orlando’s PS4 bracket squad will face Mavs Gaming in Round 3 at a time TBD.
The remainder of the showdown will continue through Friday, April 3, and all series – aside from the final rounds of each bracket – will be best-of-three game series with the final-round matchup being a best-of-five game series. Fans can watch all games on the NBA 2K League Twitch and YouTube channels.
Magic Gaming’s Brendan “Reizey” Hill, Daniel “DT” Tlais and Alex “ProFusion” Snowden will represent the squad in the XBOX bracket and will take on Team “The OG’s” on Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET.
