Magic Gaming Sweeps T-Wolves Gaming to Advance in SLAM OPEN Bracket Play

The Lead: Magic Gaming is currently one of the hottest teams in the NBA 2K League. Since dropping their first two contests of the season, Orlando has rattled off four straight victories.

Magic Gaming’s latest conquest was a 3-0 series sweep of T-Wolves Gaming as they advanced in SLAM OPEN 3v3 bracket play.

Game 1: Magic Gaming set the tone for the series right out of the gate. Orlando never trailed on its way to a 23-19 victory over Minnesota.

Point guard Joshua “unguardable” Hunter went 7-for-8 from the floor and finished with a contest-best 15 points, while big man Ashton “LowkeyGodlike” Agredano notched five points, three rebounds, and five assists. The duo connected on the contest-clinching bucket, as unguardable found LowkeyGodlike in the corner for a game-winning 3-pointer.

“We knew this series was going to be very emotional,” said Magic Gaming general manager and head coach Jonah Edwards. “We were very intentional about trying to come out and just make them work for everything.”

Game 2: For the second straight outing, Magic Gaming would never trail, as it rolled to a 21-8 victory over T-Wolves Gaming.

Unguardable continued to make it clear that he’s the best player on the court, notching game highs in points (13) and assists (four).

Small forward Julian “Jboolin” Manzanares, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NBA 2K League Draft, posted six points and two steals for Orlando. Magic Gaming held the No. 2 overall pick in the same class, T-Wolves Gaming point guard Damian “tutak” Tutak, scoreless.

“I’m not going to lie in Game 2, I was telling my team ‘I know tutak a little bit, just let me die,’” said Jboolin of playing against his former pro-am league teammate. “Don’t give up the free cuts and slips, and let me work tutak one-one-one.”

“I was excited (for this matchup),” he continued. “I’ve known him for (around) two years. So, playing against him was a full-circle (moment). From playing current gen together to next gen to pro-am. So, I was excited to play against him.”

Game 3: Magic Gaming did not face its first deficit in this matchup until midway through the third game of this series. It turns out, it didn’t matter. Orlando rallied late for a thrilling 22-18 triumph over Minnesota to complete the sweep.

Unguardable tallied 11 points, four assists, and two steals, while LowkeyGodlike added 11 points and three rebounds.

Quote to Note: “It’s clear that we’ve improved a lot on both ends (of the floor) to be honest … Our communication on defense has improved significantly since the first evening … And just taking our points. We don’t have to overhunt the 3-point line. We have incredible shooters and shot makers, and I think it becomes really easy to lean into that. But we have guys that (can do a variety of things). We can back down with Jboolin. Josh can go rim-run and take a dunk. If they overcorrect for that, all of a sudden, the perimeter will open up. I think that’s what we’ve really done recently.” – Edwards on his team’s improvement.
