Magic Gaming Sweeps Dreamshakers for First SWITCH OPEN Series Victory

The Lead

Magic Gaming’s best-of-five series against amateur team Dreamshakers on Thursday started just before 9:30 p.m. ET. A little over 20 minutes later, it was over. After coming from behind to win Game 1, Orlando rolled in the next two to complete the sweep and notch their first series victory in Coinbase 3v3 SWITCH OPEN group play.

Game 1

Christopher “Duck” Charles scored 13 points and hit back-to-back 3-pointers on Orlando’s final two possessions, including one right after a steal by Matthew “Matty” Grant, as Magic Gaming pulled out a come-from-behind 22-20 victory in the opener. TheRealDario led Dreamshakers with 11 points, while CBFW_c scored nine.

“We never doubted ourselves,” Duck said. “We went down early in the game. I feel like it was a lot of fluke stuff going on, so I told my teammates to just give me the ball and we should be able to come out with the W.”

Game 2

The Magic came out swinging and never relinquished control in their one-sided 21-11 victory in Game 2. Robert “May” May, who sealed the victory with a dunk, filled up the stat sheet with nine points, two rebounds and two assists, while Duck posted eight points and three assists. Orlando connected on all three of their 3-point attempts and shot 9-of-11 overall.

Game 3

Orlando missed just one shot in their 21-14 Game 3 victory to finish off Dreamshakers. May made all three of his shots, including the series-clinching 3-pointer. Matty also was perfect from the field and finished with four points, while Duck led the Magic with nine points and four assists. CBFW_c led all scorers in this contest with 12 points.

Quotes of the Night

“I just feel like we were the better team. If they are going to go at Robbie and Matty, I like Matty and Robbie against most guards in the league. I feel like if they are going to try to attack that matchup, I’m very confident in it. (We got) out to an early lead and never looked back.” – Duck

“We are sitting in a position now where we at least control our own destiny, and we know exactly what to expect from the other teams in the group. I certainly think this is a tough road in the next three games, just because these are still tough teams. The Sixers are good. The Knicks are good. They had a tough matchup tonight when they faced off. We are going to be watching all that film and making sure we can soak up as much as we can as far as intel going into those series. We think we can definitely make it out this thing. The confidence (is) in the room, even though we are one-and-two, (and) we just have to have a good early start to next week, and we think we will be in Indy to follow.” – Magic Gaming General Manager and Head Coach Jonah Edwards
