Magic Gaming Falls to Warriors Gaming Squad
May 16, 2019
What we’ve learned over the last two weeks is that Warriors Gaming Squad is for real. Winning THE TURN, one of three tournaments held throughout the NBA 2K League season, certainly doesn’t appear to have been a fluke, as Magic Gaming discovered on Thursday.
Although they hoped to build some momentum entering a bye week after thrashing new-look Pistons GT a night earlier, a matchup against the suddenly scorching hot Warriors perhaps came at an inopportune time with how well Golden State is playing. The Magic fell behind 11-0 to start the night and Warriors Gaming Squad cruised from there, winning 64-28.
“They’re pretty deep, they have multiple play styles,” Magic Gaming Head Coach Jonah Edwards said. “They’re definitely one of the better teams in the league. There’s no question.”
“This is a team two weeks ago we’re scrimmaging against, we were beating them up and down, it just is what it is,” he added. “Sometimes a team gets hot, they get confident and they were definitely the better team today.”
Turnovers were a factor throughout the night for the Magic (3-4), who coughed it up 16 times, many of which led to easy transition points for the Warriors (4-2).
Point guard Charles “CB13” Bostwick, the 10th overall pick in the 2019 draft, had his best game of his young career, posting 25 points on 9-for-13 shooting from the field. Golden State’s other first round pick and Florida native, Samuel “Gradient” Salyers, finished with 21 points.
Cameron “KingCamRoyalty” Ford tallied 10 points for Magic Gaming, which didn’t score in the fourth quarter. Coming off a career-best 27-point performance against Detroit, Brendan “Reizey” Hill wasn’t able to get into the same kind of rhythm, finishing with seven points and five assists.
The Warriors, one of the league’s best rebounding teams, did a great job on the offensive glass, which gave them many second chance scoring opportunities.
With the Magic not in action next week, they will have an opportunity to get some much needed rest. It will also give them some extra time to reflect and think about ways they can generate more offense.
“Obviously, we have to figure a lot of things out with our offense,” Edwards said. “At times our offense can get super stagnant. Offensively and rebounding we tend to be sporadic on whether or not we have a good game. Really working on trying to diversify our offense and trying to get better rebounding.”
