Magic Gaming Falls to Celtics Crossover Gaming
July 12, 2019
Much was at stake for both Magic Gaming and Celtics Crossover Gaming when the playoff hopefuls faced off on Friday night.
A Magic win would move them one step closer to clinching a postseason berth, give them a head-to-head tiebreaker advantage over the Celtics should they finish with the same record and also eliminate a few teams from playoff contention.
For a half, it looked like all those things were going to happen, as the Magic built a 10-point lead in the second quarter.
But, the Celtics – riding an eight-game winning streak going into the contest – rallied after halftime and increased their own chances of qualifying for the playoffs with a 53-48 victory.
As a result of Boston winning, the Raptors, Wizards and Jazz are all still alive for the postseason, which starts July 24.
This game also featured two of the finalists for the league’s Intel MVP award – Orlando’s Brendan “Reizey” Hill and Boston’s Albano “oFab” Thomallari.
The Magic did a very good job limiting oFab from a scoring standpoint, as the league’s leading scorer entering Friday’s action was held to 11 points. He did accumulate 14 assists, a category he also ranks No. 1 in.
Reizey, meanwhile, got off to a sizzling start and finished with 18 points and eight assists. The other finalists for the MVP award are Portland’s Nidal “Mama Im Dat Man” Nasser, Philadelphia’s Ethan “Radiant” White and Sacramento’s Michael “BP” Diaz.
Cameron “KingCamRoyalty” Ford, who leads the league in field goal percentage, scored 16 points on 8-of-9 shooting. He also tallied 11 rebounds, two steals, a block and an assist.
The second and third quarters swung in totally different directions. Orlando dominated the second frame, holding Boston to just four points while outscoring them by nine. The third, however, belonged to the C’s, who posted 22 points in the quarter while the Magic were limited to nine.
The Magic’s second scheduled game of the night was postponed due to travel complications. Their contest against Grizz Gaming, a team they defeated during the THE TICKET, will be made up sometime next week.
