Magic Gaming Cruises Past Mavs Gaming
July 27, 2018
Magic Gaming’s Cinderella story continues to head down a fairytale path.
After dropping their first five games, thoughts of a playoff berth were more like a pipe dream. Now, they’re nearly cemented in reality.
Magic Gaming used a dominant second half effort to surge past Mavs Gaming, 74-58, earning their fourth straight victory.
Christopher “KontruL” Cantrell erupted for a game-high 24 points, knocking down 9-of-15 attempts from the floor. He also led an exceptional defensive effort against Artreyo “Dimez” Boyd, forcing one of the league’s most dangerous passers into a contest-worst five turnovers.
“KontroL definitely gave him pressure, forced him into five turnovers,” Emmanuel “UCMANNY” Cruz said. “He just puts us in the right position to win and we came out with a W.”
UCMANNY did his share of damage as well. Playing with a sharpshooting archetype, Magic Gaming’s power forward lived up to the billing. UCMANNY went a scorching 9-for-12 from the floor and 3-for-3 from long distance on his way to 21 points.
Like many of their victories this season, the triumph was a collective effort. Brian “NachoTraynor” Traynor Jr. posted 14 points to go along with a team-best six assists, Cameron “KingCamRoyalty” Ford pulled down a contest-high 17 rebounds, and Bilal “SUPREME PULLER” Almashni went an efficient 3-for-4 from the floor, scoring eight points.
“Coming into this game, we knew it was a must win,” UCMANNY explained. “We definitely have been getting better and better every single game and I think we still haven’t reached our peak of what we possibly could become.”
After 13 lead changes in the first half and holding just a one-point lead heading into the break, Magic Gaming went on a 15-5 run to start the third quarter and never looked back.
“Defense led to our easy transition buckets,” KontruL said. “We were just really raining threes on them too.”
Despite moving into fifth place in the league standings and increasing their odds of advancing to the playoffs – the top seven teams qualify – Magic Gaming has no plans of taking their foot off the gas in the final two rounds of the inaugural NBA 2K League regular season.
“We were told we wouldn’t win a game, now we’re sitting in fifth place,” UCMANNY said. “We believe we can move up to Top 3 by the next game and we’re going to keep moving with the momentum.”
With the way their storybook season has gone, anything is possible.
