Unguardable’s Season-High 38-Point Effort Propels Magic Gaming Past Cavs Legion GC

ORLANDO – In order to rack up victories in THE TURN tournament, Magic Gaming was fully aware that they would need to turn it up on the defensive end.

Although their offense has been among the NBA 2K League’s best in 5v5 action, they’ve struggled to slow down their opponents on the other end of the floor.

Magic Gaming took a step in the right direction on Thursday night as they used a stellar showing from point guard Joshua “unguardable” Hunter and a staunch defensive effort to take down Cavs Legion GC 73-60 in TURN group play action.

“That’s probably the best (defense) we’ve played all year,” said Magic Gaming center Devin “Scoreo” Lawrence of his group’s effort after the first quarter. “I’m proud of everybody. The best defense we played all year by far.”

As he’s been throughout the season, unguardable was sensational. The second-year standout erupted for a season-high 38 points – his most since joining Magic Gaming – to go along with a contest-best 11 assists.

Unguardable hit those marks with extreme efficiency. Orlando’s floor general went a scorching 14-for-20 from the floor and 7-for-11 from 3-point range. He also finished the game without committing a single turnover.

“No other guard in the league does what he does,” said Scoreo of unguardable. “He can do this anytime he wants to. Anytime we load it up (he can do it). It’s normal for him. This should be his normal. I expect that from him, and he knows that.”

Since joining Orlando this offseason, Scoreo has been a pleasant surprise. He was brought to the team for his corner defense but has since also impressed the organization will his efficient offense.

For the second straight night, Scoreo was perfect from the floor, going 10-for-10 from the field on his way to 20 points. He rounded out his statline with nine rebounds and four assists.

“He might be the most underrated player in the league,” said unguardable of Orlando’s center. “He leads the league in field goal percentage. The last two nights, he didn’t miss a shot. And he was acquired to play defense. It’s just a huge asset to have.”

After struggling to slow down Cleveland in the first quarter – allowing 22 points in the opening frame – Orlando held its opponent to 16 points or less in the final three periods.

“We had a two hour talk about what we were going to do differently, and I feel like we executed what we said we were going to do,” said unguardable. “I feel like that’s the biggest key. The offense is always good. But we can’t win unless we play good defense.”
Magic Gaming continues their run in THE TURN on Friday night when they face Wizards District Gaming at 10 p.m. ET. The spotlight will be on both squads as the matchup is the NBA 2K League’s Game of the Week.

“It means a lot for our sponsors and our organization to be seen as the biggest game,” said unguardable. “Especially against the Wiz, who are probably the best team throughout our league’s history.”
